Measuring for Action
Vine cultivation is a perennial, sustainable practice. With proper care, the plant can bear fruit for over a century.
Yet wine production, like any economic activity, generates greenhouse gas emissions. We have a duty to drastically reduce our impact at every stage of production and distribution.
Life cycle analysis is integrated into our process from the design phase of every new cuvée. We prioritize recyclable and recycled materials wherever possible: glass, corks from forests managed responsibly—both economically and socially—and recycled paper and cardboard. We do not use air freight for the sale of our wines, but maritime, road, and rail transport when possible.
Glass alone accounts for nearly 40% of our total carbon footprint, including end-of-life. For several years, we have taken concrete action to reduce this impact by developing alternative formats: Bag-in-Box, Kegs (26L), and bulk sales.
Lightening and recycling
Over seven years, we've reduced the weight of our Languedoc red bottle by 29% while increasing its recycled glass content. Our H&B Provence, another flagship wine, has also cut its bottle weight by 15%.
From Recycling to Reuse
Reusing a glass bottle can cut CO₂ emissions by 50–75% compared to producing a new one and reduces production energy use by 75%. Aware of this positive impact, we’ve decided to go further by developing a bottle deposit-return scheme.
A Collective, Hands-On Approach
After successful trials in several Paris stores with one of our long-standing partners, Hecht & Bannier has joined the ReUse network. This network brings together stakeholders from various sectors—wine, distribution, and logistics—around the reuse of glass packaging. We currently work with two national distributors and online platform committed to this transition.
A Range adapted for Reuse
We’ve developed a special range built for Reuse, with bottles compatible with existing collection, washing, and redistribution systems.
We’re also a shareholder of OC Consigne, a major reuse organization in southern France, supporting the regional expansion of the deposit-return scheme.
