A 2005 Minervois leans heavily on Syrah (along with some Grenache) from La Liviniere, and was vinified in a combination of tank, demi-muids and barriques (none new). While certain normally desirable parcels had to be left out of this blend, the proprietors report, because some sites suffered more from early September rains, both the polished mouth-feel and depth of flavor on exhibit here are notable. Bitter-sweet cassis, juniper, dark chocolate, lavender, and smoked meat are the recurrent themes, and although a bit of mid-palate concentration might be wanting, a slightly saline, meaty savor is nicely complemented by its suggestions of berries and herbs. Plan to enjoy it over the coming 12-18 months. Drink 2008-2009. US$22
