90/100
Hecht & Bannier’s 2010 Maury is surprisingly red-fruited for its appellation, emphasizing strawberry and red raspberry preserves, subtly inflected by espresso-roast coffee, resinous herbs and crushed stone. At 90 grams of residual sugar this comes off as very well-balanced by appellation standards, which is to say: in no way sticky or excessively sweet. I would look to enjoy it through 2017 (though – like any of its genre – some may prefer to hold it significantly longer).
