16,5/20 Grenache, with some Mourvèdre and Syrah. Dark purple. Nose dominated by macerated berry fruit, opulent and sweet with a touch of liquorice. A note of char on the palate, some dark herbal bitterness, and deep blackcurrant. Rich, firmly embraced by swarthy, but not uncomfortable tannin. Very powerful alcohol so needs careful drinking and something […]
16/20 Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan. Deep crimson, rich colour. Wild and gamey nose, just softened by almost-not-there cherry aromas. Pretty snug fruit hunkering down on the core, with good mouthwatering acidity balanced out by the ripeness, but the tannins are aggressive and somewhat abrasive. Notes of graphite. A burn on the finish. The taste of singed […]
16-/20 Picpoul Blanc and Roussanne. Very pale gold. Billowing with tropical passion fruit, mango and just a slight wild mintiness and sweet lemon citrus on the nose. Sage, slightly green tropical fruit, and a particularly sweet-and-sour profile with a thwack of acidity. Very slightly bitter and just a little short on the end. (TC)
15,5/20 Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. Glowing ruby. Quite charred on the nose with a tinge of hot plum. Lots of tannins to grapple with, and black pepper, some sappy fruit. Very drying finish. Needs food.(TC)
17/20 Syrah, Grenache, matured for 24 months in 600-litre demi muids. Dark crimson. Not a lot on the nose – just a murmur of fruit and graphite. Concentrated on the palate, dark fruit with a firm handshake of tannin. Liquorice and peppercorns, with a dark undertow of plums and wild fragrant herbs. Almost slightly salty. […]
16,5/20 Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, matured for 24 month in 600-litre demi muids. Strong deep ruby. Sweet ripe cherries on the nose, with a touch of liquorice and dry herb tea leaves. Juicy generous fruit, very expressive, rolls across the tongue with a drag of hearty but supple tannins. Light notes of orange oil, walnut and […]
16,5/20 Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault. Bright, ripe, pure fruit nose. Black fruit, sloe berries, dark and tarry. Brambles and thick cough-medicine and crushed black-olive bitterness. Full of sturdy meaty Bandol character, but the very chewy muscular tannins are formidable and quite dry. (TC)
